Discovering Literacy While Exploring The Outdoors
Thursday February 6, 2025 12:45pm - 1:45pm MST
Exploring nature and the outside environment is a natural and important part of children’s learning. Children’s literature is a great initiator and connector to taking children outside to play, discover and learn to care for the natural environment. Children's literature enhances the development of language skills and critical thinking skills that provide the foundation for children’s learning about the natural world around them. This Let's Talk Science session will provide inspiring ideas for enhancing children’s learning through nature and supporting children’s curiosity, interests and creativity.

What's happened to our students and how can we help?
Friday February 7, 2025 10:15am - 11:15am MST
What's happened to our students and how can we help? The benefits of a trauma-informed approach (TIA) in K-12 schools. This is a session designed to help teachers view their students through a new lens. When teachers can change their perceptions of student behaviour, they can more successfully navigate the many different challenges they face in the classroom. Students arrive in our classroom having experienced a wide range of trauma. Teachers need to ensure they are working with these students in a supportive and caring way. You should leave this session with a new understanding of behaviours, as well as armed with a variety of easy-to-implement strategies and a list of recommended resources.
